The chestnuts, traditional autumn festivals celebrated in several villages of Ardèche between October and November. They highlight the Ardèche chestnut, a true emblem of the territory and labeled AOP “Ardèche Chestnut”.

Chestnut in the spotlight

It is during the chestnut festivals that the chestnut, the emblematic fruit of the Cévennes d'Ardèche, is in the spotlight: producers' markets, chestnut roasts, tastings, balls and various cultural events.

A festive and gourmet event

The Castagnades are an opportunity to discover the chestnut in all its forms:

  • Tastings : roasted chestnuts, chestnut cream, chestnut flour, traditional dishes…
  • Motion Art : shows, concerts, stories, craft demonstrations…
  • Walks and discoveries : gourmet hikes, visits to chestnut groves, meetings with producers.

An anchoring in the Ardèche villages

Each participating village offers its own program, but always in a spirit of friendly party and transmission of know-how. Among the villages famous for their Castagnades, we find Joyeuse, Antraigues-sur-Volane, Désaignes, Privas, Saint-Pierreville, Saint André Lachamp.

A living heritage

Beyond the party, the Castagnades are a nice way to Promote chestnut culture and to raise public awareness about the preservation of Ardèche chestnut groves, which are an integral part of the landscape and history of our beautiful region.
