Program
Day 1
Step 1: Arrival by train + bus
A great opportunity to combine simplicity and eco-responsibility: as a reminder, a kilometer traveled by TGV emits on average 26 times less CO2 than a kilometer traveled by car.
To reach Joyeuse from the stations of Montélimar, Valence TGV, Alès or Avignon, regular lines are available: line E13, X74, E15.
Get off at the Tourist Office bus stop in Joyeuse to reach the hotel on foot.
Day 2 – Enter the legend!
Step 1: Visit Joyeuse

Joyeuse, located near the Beaume River, at the foot of the Ardèche Cévennes, is a village whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. It has been a center of commercial life since the 13th century, supplying the surrounding countryside with imported goods. In the 17th century, Joyeuse became an industrial center, developing a rich and contemporary activity: silk.
Stage 2: Hike the Balcons de Joyeuse

Departure on foot from the hotel, follow the GPX track provided.
An easy half-day walk to discover the limestone plateau of Gras de Joyeuse. A hike through open landscapes overlooking the Tanargue Massif and the village of Joyeuse. Gras plateaus are limestone plateaus characteristic of southern Ardèche. There, you'll find low-lying or wooded vegetation: Picardy trees, junipers, Mediterranean shrubs, old mulberry trees, a legacy of silkworm farming, various oaks, and Montpellier maples. Lunch is served with a picnic basket or packed lunch, reserved the day before at the hotel reception.
Day 3 – The alchemy between geology and wine
The GEOPARC label is awarded by UNESCO and the Global Geoparks Network to a territory with remarkable geological heritage. The label is based on three pillars: preservation of spaces and improved scientific knowledge; education to raise awareness of the environment and the territory; and sustainable tourism that contributes to local development through geology-oriented tourism.
Step 1: Hiking the vineyard trail

Departure on foot from the hotel, following the provided GPX track. A beautiful hike through the Ardèche vineyards, which will take you to the heart of the Chatus terraces, in the heart of the Monts d'Ardèche Regional Natural Park, to understand the mysterious alchemy between geology and wine. Punctuated by explanatory panels and crossing the terraced vineyards, this walk invites you to discover a sandstone and frankly wine-growing landscape. A walk to enjoy without moderation!
Step 2: Visit the Cévenole cellar
The "La Cévenole" wine cellar, home to Chatus, an ancient Ardèche grape variety, offers wine sales and tastings throughout the year.
The cellar located in the heart of the village of Rosières is a place of welcome and exchange, where you can taste mystical wines of character such as the “Chatus Monnaie d'Or” and the Cuvée 1883, an ancestral grape variety.
Step 3: Departure by bus towards Les Vans
Get off at the Les Vans Centre bus stop to reach the hotel on foot.
Day 4 – Les Vans and its lively village
The town of Les Vans is located at the crossroads of the Cévennes and southern Ardèche, where olive trees, vines and chestnut trees grow side by side, close to the Chassezac Gorges.
It is a welcoming and lively city all year round, where it is pleasant to stroll through the lively shopping streets and explore its architectural and historical heritage.
Step 1: The Enchanting Wood

Departure on foot or by bus towards Païolive, follow the gpx track provided.
(possibility of taking bus line E13 to reach the entrance to the woods to reduce the distance – time constraint departure 13:34 p.m. return 17:19 p.m.) – difference in altitude 227 meters without bus connection or 103 meters with bus connection.
A true natural labyrinth overlooking the Chassezac. The Bois de Païolive, made up of petrified rocks and white oaks, forms a set of listed labyrinths.
(sensitive natural area). Enter this mysterious world, where you'll encounter some surprising things. The Bois de Païolive has been inhabited by strange rock sculptures since the dawn of time.
On the hiking trails that wind through the forest, you'll feel like a guest. So keep your eyes peeled!
Step 2: Visit the Vans Museum

Day 5 – Naves puts on a circus act
The landscapes around Naves present a great geological variety caused by the presence of the Orcières fault (also called the Brahic fault). This fault, approximately 6 kilometers long, is the extension of the North fault of Mont Lozère. It directly connects the crystalline and schistose mountain (northern fringe of the Cévennes) with secondary sedimentary terrain (Bas-Vivarais).
Step 1: Hike the Cirque de Naves

Depart on foot from the hotel, following the provided GPS track. This beautiful hike takes you along the Naves interpretation trail, a beautiful Village of Character®, to discover the landscapes and the link between geological and human history.
Along a route rich in viewpoints and surprising panoramas, the Cirques de Naves geopath allows you to discover superb and preserved landscapes, between the slopes of the Cévennes and the Mediterranean scrubland. The circuit, which forms a loop, crosses a limestone zone compiling 18 million years of Earth's history and then allows you to approach the metamorphic territories of the Massif Central, 500 million years old. These two groups are exceptionally brought into contact by the presence of a geological fault: the Orcières fault... All this geological history, which has major consequences on buildings, fauna, flora and agriculture, will be explained to you through 11 stops equipped with interpretation tables to combine pleasant hiking and fun learning.
Step 2: Visit the village of character® of Naves

Clinging to the first reliefs of the Cévennes, Naves smells of the South, nestled in its hills of olive trees. It had its heyday in the XNUMXth century with the development of silkworm breeding, an activity that has now disappeared.
The village is built at the confluence of the Bourdaric and Malarce streams, on a hill offering remarkable views. A reservoir of biodiversity, part of the Gras de Naves is protected as a “Nature Reserve.” Naves is located in the eastern part of the Massif Central in the Cévennes.
End of stay return by bus line E13, X74, E15. Centre stop.
