Nestled in the south-east of France, in the Rhône-Alpes region, this village is one of two hamlets that are separated by the gorges of Chassezac, Berrias and Casteljau, and which form a single commune. Located 20 kilometers from Vallon-Pont d'Arc, 17 kilometers from Ardèche gorges and 40 kilometers fromAubenas, it has numerous accommodations (campsites, hotels, holiday residences, etc.), as well as shops and services.
The vineyards that wind across the plain are the subject of tasting hikes and it is possible to discover the Païolive wood during a horseback riding. Casteljau in Ardèche is home to a 13th century castle, converted into a holiday residence. Commandery of Jalès was built in 1140 by the Knights Templar and is worth a visit. Many archaeological sites are worth a visit, and it is even possible to follow hiking trails in their footsteps. Several caves contain cave paintings or promise a walk among rocks worked by time and water, such as the cave of the Cocalière or that of Chauvet-Pont d'Arc.
